Thanks to the Master Gardeners’ contributions, a tree memorial for John Austin was planted in late October. With everyone’s support we were able to plant a Pagoda Dogwood Cornus alternifolia, with the needed soil amendments, mulch, and a memorial marker. A contribution was also made to the Ivy Creek Foundation in John’s memory. They will use these funds to support various Ivy Creek projects.
A special thanks to Marty, Aurora, Sarah, Leeyanne, Abigail and Kathy for helping with the site preparation, tree planting, and for picking up the tree. Thank you especially Mary for working to organize the memorial and event.
We also appreciated the help of four students from Computers 4 Kids who participated in the tree-planting. John’s mother and two brothers were also there. The marker for the tree will read as follows:
Pagoda Dogwood
Cornus alternifolia
John Curtis Austin, for
natural & social services
Stop by sometime to see it if you have the chance.
